Auburn Rolls Over Boylan
With a sold out regional game at Rockford Guilford, Rockford Auburn took an early lead against Boylan Friday night. This has been the story many times for Auburn this year, taking control early and making it look easy, draining 3 pointers early Auburn took the wind out of Boylan’s sails. Boylan found themselves chasing the whole game. The no-look passes and intensity of Auburn was too much and Boylan couldn't find an answer for the explosive Auburn team.
As the game unfolded, tempers get heated but not from the team that is down. Antoine Pittman received what may have been construed as a controversial foul call and takes the next play into his own hands finishing with a power dunk. Using intensity to fuel a team is good thing and served Auburn well; however it can become a hindrance as it did when Malik Cobb received a technical foul following a monster dunk of his own. It had no effect on this game with Auburn winning 87-57 but will it hurt them moving forward?
Auburn will face a familiar foe in Elgin Larkin as they begin sectional play on Tuesday, March 10, at 7:00 P.M. in Dekalb. Auburn beat Larkin earlier this season 82-54, but everyone know that the play-offs are a whole new game. If Auburn can contain this intensity, use it positively and stay poised, they will be a hard team to beat as they move into the sectional rematch on their quest to make it to Peoria.
